Scholarship
Report September 2008
It is time to start spreading the word about
the fourth annual Charles and Marie Hollins Memorial Scholarship.
This year’s event will again be held at Atlantis Marine World in
Riverhead on Friday November 7, 2008 at 6:30 P.M. In past
years, the dinner was held on a Thursday night. This caused many
people to not attend because they had to get up early for work or
school the next day. For this year’s event, I spoke with the
catering department at the aquarium and they gave us a Friday night
and we are able to keep ticket prices the same as last year, $55 for
adults and $40 for children.
We will need your help to make this night even
bigger than last year. As always, we will need help the night of
the event to set-up, sell tickets, check people in, etc… More
importantly, we need help spreading the word. This is a great
reason to get a group of friends together for a night out.
Admission alone to the aquarium is currently $21.00+tax per person.
For $55.00 you get admission to the entire aquarium, a really great
dinner with an open beer/wine/soda bar. You cannot beat that for
the price, and all the money raised goes to supports the future of
our marine environment.
We also need help collecting donations for the
raffles and silent auction. Not all donations have to be fishing
related. Past year’s event sponsors donated dinners at local
restaurants, wines, pictures, quilts, concert tickets, dental plans,
family portraits, furniture, travel vouchers, and books. Of course
there will be plenty of fishermen and fisherwomen in attendance, so
please ask you local tackle shop or fishing captain if they would be
willing to donate some items or services for the night.
Fliers can be downloaded from our web site, so
please print them out and start getting them out there. If you are
able to get donations, please drop me an email to let me know what
you have so I can keep a running list.
If you have any questions, please drop me an
email at
chris@amwny.com.
I hope to see everyone there!
