MONTHLY BOARD MEETING  MINUTES - MAY 13, 2010

1. Meeting called to order: 7:40PM

2. Pledge of Allegiance, moment of silence for our troops.

3. Roll Call.

4. MINUTES: The minutes from the April meeting were read by all, and a motion was made, seconded and passed to accept them.

4. TREASURER’S REPORT: Billy read a summary of Larry’s report, as Larry could not attend this meeting.

5. PRESIDENT’S REPORT: Billy started off with the grass planting we help with at Gilgo Beach. He said he did not blame anyone that did not come because it was such a rainy day. He also said that those who did go, got a lot accomplished despite the weather. Thanks to the Gilgo Inn for opening up and giving us shelter. Present at this planting were, besides mostly LIBBA members, were a few members of Surf riders, some members of Save Our Beaches ( who supplied the beach grass plugs ), and of course Betsy and her park personnel.

Billy said that this was supposed to be a LIBBA sponsored clean up. Plans were changed due to the severe erosion that occurred this past winter, when we were asked by the State to help in this project. The LIBBA , as always, took the high road and came through.

Billy then talked about the Casting for Recovery Dinner. A good time was had by those who attended. He then read a letter from Casting for Recovery thanking LIBBA for it’s support and generosity.

6. EXECUTIVE VP REPORT: Chuck started his report informing us that Heckscher State Park is a go for our 2010 LIBBA Jamboree on August 7th. Details will be worked out about campers. Chuck also said that the outgoing supervisor of Heckscher Joe Montore has for the past 3 years, pushed for LIBBA to have it’s Jamboree there with no fee. Chuck feels some kind of donation to this Park would be appropriate.

Also, Chuck told us that as of June 9th, Joe Mantore will be the new Suffolk County Parks Commissioner. Meetings will have to be scheduled after he settles in to his new position.

Insurance and plates are off the LIBBA truck. It needs to be cleaned out.

Gabe found us a storage place in Bayshore for $149.00 per month, with some perks. A motion was made, seconded and passed to make this move.

7. 2nd VP REPORT: Frank talked about getting a new show booth put together as we will be going to a show in September.

He also reminded us about the beach clean up at Shagwong on the 22nd of May.

8. COURTESY PATROL: We were told Betsy was enquiring about a grass planting at Field 5.

A question was asked about how we could purchase beach grass plugs and Billy said that Chuck had secured a grant to LIBBA, and we will have to figure out how to spend it.

9. MEMBERSHIP: Bea gave us her Membership report. She told us we now have 21 businesses on board. We picked up 48 new members so far this year, but there are still past due members.

There are still a few corrections needed on the roster.

10. NEWSLETTER: Billy wants to have a newsletter put out this year. He will be working with John Marsillo to put one together hopefully before Thanksgiving.

11. WEB PAGE: Al Scardino has put together a new web page with input from Amy and Eric Sowa. He showed us a mock up. He also talked about different providers, cost, pro’s and cons of each.

A motion was made, seconded and passed to start up this new web site.

12. STATE PARKS: Willy informed us of conditions at Montauk’s North Side.

It really took a hit, but it’s just passable. He also said that the beach at Shagwong is OK, but the Point is almost gone. Sore Thumb is open, but not Gilgo. The Democrat point entrance is supposed to open on or about the 16th.

The air compressor at Hither Hills should be in shortly. This is being put in with funds from the annual Fishing Contests sponsored by the Fisherman and the State.

Ginny Fields is a good friend of LIBBA, and she can use any support we can give for the upcoming election. She has ALWAYS been there for us.

13. SUFFOLK COUNTY: Lou Farr says there have been some major changes in County Parks administrators.

14. WEST END: Hemi told us that he heard they will be ticketing and towing cars parked by the bridges.

15. PRESS RELEASES: The Jamboree -  Jim’s on it.

16. SHOW COMMITTEE: Bruno said they’ll be ready for the Jamboree, and asked for any suggestions on new merchandise to sell.

17. OHS: Bea suggested upgrading prizes.

18. RAFFLES: Cooky wants to get the raffles out by the end of May.

19. JAMBOREE: August 7th.

20. FISHING CONTEST: Rick clarified the definition of a Junior Member.

Contest rules are on the Web Page.

A motion was made, seconded and passed to adjourn.
