March 2011 Annual Meeting Minutes

     LONG ISLAND BEACH BUGGY ASSOCIATION

                 ANNUAL MEETING MINUTES - MARCH 6, 2011

1. Meeting called to order: 11:30AM

2. Pledge of Allegiance, moment of silence for our troops, Frank Stark.

3. Roll Call, Introduction of honored guests,

4. MINUTES: The minutes from the February meeting were read by all, and a motion was then made, seconded and passed to accept them.

5. TREASURER: Larry read a letter of audit of the LIBBA finances for 2010. The letter stated that all finances are in order. Larry then gave his report on the LIBBA finances. He pointed out how finances were lower than previous years because of the lack of support of much of the membership, such as not renewing dues and lack of participation at LIBBA functions such as the Jamboree. He stressed the importance of supporting LIBBA, so that it can continue to pursue and preserve beach access for it’s members. A motion was made, seconded and passed to accept his report.

6. PRESIDENT’S REPORT: Billy agreed that we need more support. Even though the Treasurer’s report was gloomy, Billy feels that things will get better by getting new members and more support from the membership.

He said that the Directors are doing a great job, thanked them, and asked for a round of applause for them.

He mentioned the Van Staal reel that was being raffled and that the monies from that would go right into the scholarship fund. Although we did not have a Scholarship Dinner last year, we will be working towards having one this year.

7. EXEC. VP REPORT: Chuck said that the past year has been a tough one. Everyone’s been cutting back; State, County and Towns have pulled back on services and patrols. Last November we got new people in office who we will be sitting down with. A new bill is being put out to stop the Fishing License.

We have a new Commissioner of Parks for Suffolk, Joe Montouri, who Chuck has spoken with many times. He seems to be good for us. Chuck told the membership that if there are any problems they see, they should contact LIBBA so they may be addressed. We can use the extra eyes and ears.

8. PRESIDENT”S AWARDS: Billy presented President’s Pins to Directors who went the extra mile for LIBBA. Frank Shortemeyer, Jerry Estelle, Pete Brower, and Bea Noguier were this years recipients. Al Scardino and Cooky Rondinella received plaques from Billy. Lou Farr received a Lifetime Achievement Plaque. Artie Boyd and Joe Zaffuto were made Honorary LIBBA Members.

Bea gave Billy an award from the Daughter’s of the American Revolution for his Distinguished Conservation Work. Congratulations Billy. Good job Bea!

9. 1st VP REPORT: Cooky made mention that out of over 1,000 members, the turn out today was a bit disappointing. He said that we need to push for new membership. There were about 12,000 permits issued last year, so there is a lot of room for improvement for new members. Remember, there is strength in numbers.

We would like to move the Jamboree back to Montauk, but the gas situation will not make it feasible. We are looking around to find the best place.

10. 2nd VP REPORT: Frank said it’s a new year so his advise to all is to get their vehicles checked out and ready for the beach. He mentioned that many are having problems with their brake lines, so that would be a top priority to get checked out. One member mentioned a place called inline tubing that has SS brake lines already bent.

Frank gave out the dates for this years grass plantings and beach cleanups. He said the dates and times are in the LIBBA Newsletter and on the LIBBA Website.

11. WEBMASTER’S REPORT: Al gave us a very detailed report on the workings and usage of the LIBBA Website. He invited the members to participate with the website by listing activities and giving feedback, because this is the member’s website. LIBBA.com addresses are available. Business sponsorships are available see Bea or Gabe. Great job Al!

12. STATE PARKS: Willy Young told us that the beaches are still thin due to erosion. Gilgo may not be open. A parking area at Gilgo may be in the works, we haven’t gotten word back from the State.

Projects that may happen because of the monies from the Fishing contests are:

A fish cleaning station in the Montauk Lower Lot, and another is an air compressor in the area of the Cedar Beach Marina.

Green Island is not forgotten, as soon as construction is done we will be back there. The LIBBA sign at Demo will be put back up.

13. COUNTY PARKS: Lou Farr gave us the new higher Suffolk County Parks fees. Lou said that we are the only Suffolk County user group that has to pay 3 fees. Lou has pointed out to the Suffolk Legislatures that LIBBA is NOT a group that only WANTS, but a group that GIVES. All said, we don’t have a sympathetic ear with these Legislatures. We have to keep trying.

14. SCHOLARSHIP: Cooky told us that LIBBA is looking in to a different venue for the scholarship dinner.

Artie Boyd announced the winner of the $2500.00 LIBBA Scholarship Recipient.
