LONG ISLAND BEACH BUGGY ASSOCIATION
MONTHLY BOARD MEETING MINUTES - JANUARY 18, 2011
1. Meeting called to order: 7:45PM
2. Pledge of Allegiance, moment of silence for our troops.
3. Roll Call.
4. MINUTES: December minutes were not read because the Recording Secretary felt that because of the shortness of that meeting, he did not need to bring them. He apologizes profusely.
5. TREASURER: Larry gave his report on the past two month’s finances. The numbers were not as good as past years. A discussion followed about different reasons for this. Larry is looking for someone to audit the LIBBA books before the annual meeting. A motion was made, seconded and passed to accept his report.
6. PRESIDENT’S REPORT: Billy started his report wishing all a Happy New Year. Anyone wishing to remain or become a Director please give your name to either Lou Farr or Jim Langone.
This year we will have to make some adjustments. We have to concentrate on weak areas in the organization and bring things back up to speed.
The next Newsletter articles are due before the next month’s meeting.
The Coliseum Show has been cancelled. The next show will be the LI Fishing Expo on February 4,5, and 6 at the Marriott Islandia. That will be followed by the NYSF Show in Freeport, February 18 - 20. We will also be present at the LI Fishing Expo 2 being held at Queens College , March 12 - 13. We are hoping to increase membership at these shows.
7. 1st VP REPORT: Cooky told us that any one who could get donations for the raffle at the Annual Meeting, it would be greatly appreciated. A discussion about what can be done for sponsors regarding our website followed.
8. 2nd VP REPORT: Frank told us about the two screens that Al Scardino donated to LIBBA for the show booth. They need to be printed or worked on to get them ready for the shows. This would be at a cost of $503.00. A motion was
made, seconded and passed to go ahead with it.
9. COURTESY PATROL: The proposed dates for LIBBA’s Beach Clean ups are : March 20th
April 10th
10. MEMBERSHIP: Bea gave us her detailed report on the Membership. She told us dues are coming in.
11. WEBSITE: Al gave his report on the website, detailing the number of “ hits” and explaining different aspects of them. He also would like some articles to put up.
12. STATE PARKS: Willy Young said that this year there will be a more concentrated effort to get more access at Jones Beach. He also said that we might be seeing a fish cleaning table and an air pump at the lot in Montauk in the near future.
Rick Zappala informed us that A NY State Park Commissioner, Dave Bender, seems to be reaching out to some fishing groups to get opinions on the ongoing conflicts between Fishermen and surfers AND other user groups on LI Beaches, AND how we feel about making the 4WD Beach FISHING Permit available to ALL user groups. Gilgo, Democrat Point and some Montauk beaches were mentioned. LIBBA was not included in the original email. Billy said he would like to answer this enquiry. A discussion followed.
13. COUNTY PARKS: Lou Farr told us the Fee schedule for Suffolk County Parks. KEY CARD - $24.00
BEACH VEHICLE PERMIT - $93.00
CAMPING FEE - $15.00 per night
Lou also told us that the John Fritz Memorial Pier Dedication is scheduled for this spring.
14. WEST END: Larry told us that to purchase a Gateway Permit you must have a NYS Fishing license.
15. PRESS RELEASES: Billy is looking for a volunteer to do press releases.
16. PROPERTIES: Bruno says we are all set with merchandise for the shows and Jamboree.
17. SCHOLARSHIP: Artie isn’t feeling well so Cooky will be taking over. He told us he has been looking into a Comedy Club for the scholarship dinner. He feels that we can do well having it there. A discussion followed about the pro’s and cons of this kind of fund raiser.
18. OHS: Billy said OHS was a success and thanked all who helped.
19. FISHING CONTEST: Rick gave us the final standings for all contests.
Nasty Andy Richman donated his prize back to LIBBA for the Juniors.
20. NEW BUSINESS: Rick informed us the Striper Surf Club beach clean up at West End II will be held on April 23rd.
A motion was made, seconded and passed to adjourn. 9:55PM
