February 2011 Meeting Minutes

     LONG ISLAND BEACH BUGGY ASSOCIATION

MONTHLY BOARD MEETING MINUTES - FEBRUARY 10, 2011

1. Meeting called to order: 7:45PM

2. Pledge of Allegiance, moment of silence for our troops.

3. Roll Call.

4. MINUTES: The January minutes were read by all. A motion was then made, seconded and passed to accept them.

5. TREASURER: Larry gave his report on the past month’s finances. Larry told us an inquiry was made about sales tax. It seems that if we sell saleable goods to our members, LIBBA is not required to collect a sales tax. If we were to sell to the general public, we would be required to collect sales tax. So going forward, Larry requested that anyone working the tables at any of the shows or LIBBA functions, please include on the receipts either members names or LIBBA numbers. A motion was made, seconded and passed to accept his report.

6. PRESIDENT’S REPORT: Billy talked about the first show of the year this past weekend. The LI Fishing Expo at the Marriot Islandia. He thanked those that helped work the tables. LIBBA signed up 21 new members and renewed around 50. He also mentioned that there were 12,000 State Permits issued last year, and yet LIBBA has 12 - 1400 members. That’s absurd. We have got to reach out to these people. There is strength in numbers. We have to work together to try to sign up new members and renew members. It was suggested that LIBBA have pamphlets placed at Permit sign up offices both State and County.

7. EXECUTIVE VP REPORT: Chuck told us he had been in touch with the County Park Commissioner a couple of times and learned that for outer beach camping, there is allowed only 2 vehicles per camper, and 1 must be the tow vehicle. This is posted on their website.

He also informed us that the Casting for Recovery Dinner and Fund Raiser will be held on Friday night, April 15th. Tickets are $70.00 pp. LIBBA has attended this function over the past few years, and always had a great time.

8. 1st VP REPORT: Cooky told us that the food for the Annual Meeting has been ordered. We need to look for raffle prizes. All Directors please make an effort to solicit donations. You will be provided with an authorization form.

The Annual Meeting will be held March 6th. Directors should be there at 8:30am to set up for a 10:30 meeting. We will need pick up trucks to get goods from the storage to the hall.

9. 2nd VP REPORT: Frank gave his thanks to all who helped out at the show.

He also gave us the upcoming dates and times for LIBBA’s grass planting and beach clean ups:

LIBBA GRASS PLANTING - MARCH 27

                                                   Robert Moses Field 2 - 9:00am

LIBBA BEACH CLEANUP -   APRIL 10

                                                   Robert Moses Field 2 - 9:00am

STRIPER SURF CLUB CLEANUP - APRIL 23

                                                  West End II - 8:30am

LIBBA BEACH CLEANUP -   MAY 21

                                                   Shagwong - 9:00am

Chuck told us a string fencing project is tentative for MARCH 20.

Frank said a lot of people would like to see a beach driving class like we have had in the past. It’s difficult to set it up, mostly because of beach erosion. Cooky said he will talk with Babylon Legislator Lindsey Henry to see if anything can be done on Babylon property.

Frank told us that new members, Anthony and Gene would be interested in setting up a program with the junior membership. This will be discussed further.

10. MEMBERSHIP REPORT: Bea gave us a detailed report on the membership. She said we should see if we can get any business’s to sign up for the web page. She also read a letter from a fellow doing research about his Grandfather Edward Crosby, who was a LIBBA member many years ago.

11. NEWSLETTER: John gave us his report on the Newsletter, and told us he had pretty much all the articles for the upcoming newsletter.

12: STATE PARKS: Chuck said R. Moses Field 5 is just about gone. He also told us that the Interm State Parks Commissioner took a tour of the beaches from Jones Beach to Robert Moses and went back upstate. Word has it that he was quite upset, he didn’t realize the beaches were hit so bad. He will come back another time to check Montauk. They are trying to get a permit to dredge the inlet and pump sand onto Field 5.

Chuck told us he was at a State Advisory Meeting and requested an air pump for the Gilgo area. LIBBA of course, would maintain it. A discussion followed on different options.

Cooky asked Chuck about Fall access to Jones Beach Field 9. Chuck said every time they request it, they get turned down. The actual parking lot is destroyed.

13. SUFFOLK COUNTY: Lou Farr informed us that they are meeting with County bi-monthly. Lou feels that we are not getting the access we should on County parks. He will get as much information on what’s going on and give a report at the Annual Meeting.

14. NATIONAL SEASHORE: Larry said that there are still some Gateway Permits available. You must have a fishing license to get it.

15. SHOW COMMITTEE: Jerry gave us the times for the Federation Show. He said they are ready.

Van Staal said they would donate something for our Annual Meeting

16. PRESS RELEASES: Al is going to be handling our press releases.

17. PROPERTIES: Bruno said we have sweatshirts and things ready for the Annual. He said he would like to look into getting LIBBA jackets.

18. BY LAWS: Billy told us Artie wasn’t feeling well. We ALL wish him a full recovery.

19. SCHOLARSHIP: Cooky will be Chairing this committee while Artie recovers. He is looking at Maguires Comedy Club for the Scholarship Dinner. He gave us the details of how it would be handled. It will still have to be discussed further.

20. OHS REPORT: Bea sent a thank you to The Fisherman for the Ad it gave to OHS. She also sent out thank yous to all shops who participated. She has received thank you’s for the gifts that were disbursed.

21. JAMBOREE: Cooky said Heckscher Park is again likely, but other options will be looked at. A discussion followed.

22. FISHING CONTEST: Rick gave us the final results for last year’s contests. He will be handing out the prizes at the Annual Meeting. He reminded us that NASTY ANDY donated his winnings back to the Juniors.

Thank you Rick for an outstanding job!

23. UMAP REPORT: They were originally going to have their meeting the same as our’s . Billy wasn’t too happy about that. They did change their’s, so LIBBA will tentatively be sending a delegation down. We will NOT support any surfing on State Park Beaches. Both Massachusetts and Delaware Beach Buggy Associations will back us 100%. UMAP will have to make a decision on what they want to do. The meeting will be held in Berlin, Maryland.

Rick said that SSC is waiting to see what LIBBA & MSA are going to do. He thinks other clubs will also follow suit.

A Motion was made, seconded and passed to adjourn. 10:20pm.
