MESSAGE from the PRESIDENT:

I don’t know about you but I’ve had enough snow storms to last me for this winter and next! Let’s hope it’s over and done with. With that said, we at LIBBA will be finishing up our show schedule for this year and are getting ready for our beach grass planting and cleanups. Before we get going with those projects we will be holding our annual meeting and elections on Sunday, March 6, 2011 at the Hibernian Hall, 27 Locust Ave, Babylon. The meeting will start @10:30 sharp. See the web page for details www.Libba.com.

I’ll be running for the President of LIBBA again this year. I’m not sure but this could be my 13th or 14th term. I just want to say thank you to the many members that I’ve recently met at the shows and appreciate all their compliments.

LIBBA is successful because of the work of the executive board and directors. I take care of the every day running of the LIBBA. Each director had different committees and has their own staff. As I always say, “Hard work equals success” and this year is no different. I’m happy to say that it looks as though they all will be back again next year.

I want to thank my Executive Board and Directors for all the work that they have accomplished this year. It’s a great group and I’m very proud of them all.

At the annual meeting these directors will be asking for volunteers to help on the different committees, please sign up. It’s a rewarding experience.

One of the problems we experienced this year was the dues aren’t being paid on time. I realize that we are upon difficult economic times. Don’t be hesitant to contact me on the LIBBA Hot Line (516-579-1344) to discuss your situation. All conversations are confidential, I’m sure I can solve your problem. We need all the members to keep their membership to make LIBBA grow. Our access is being threatened every day. We have directors that are in constant touch with state and county officials to preserve and protect our precious access. There is power in numbers! There were 12,000 state passes issued last year so there are a lot of people that aren’t LIBBA members, let’s reach out to them.

Be part of the solution, not part of the problem!

In closing, I would just like to say, I’m very proud to be the President of the Long Island Beach Buggy Association. I’m looking forward to seeing you all at the meeting.

We are the Keepers of the Beach.

1st VICE President’s REPORT

The annual meeting this year is on the 6th of March. The location is in Babylon at the Hibernian Hall, 27 Locust Ave, same location as last year. Please make every effort to attend, and support YOUR LIBBA. If you would like to help out in any of the committees, setup, cleanup!!!, vote counting, 50-50, and or selling merchandise and raffles, please contact me at 516-859-5266 after 4:30 pm. The only committee that is closed is the kitchen crew. Every year the same faces are seen helping at all the different events, new blood is greatly appreciated. Please do not be afraid to volunteer, remember we are all volunteers.

Purchases of merchandise and raffle tickets helps to keep YOUR LIBBA financially strong .The annual meeting, shows, and the jamboree are the only functions LIBBA uses to make money. Please remember the monies generated are used for beach access and community events.

I hope to see all of you there this year and please bring a friend. Remember we are strong in numbers.

If any member would like to run for an office or directors’ position please contact me at the number above. LIBBA is always looking for new people with new ideas.

MEMBERSHIP:

Hi everyone,

In up dating our records, it appears that some members have not paid their membership dues for some time. Some owe dues for 2010 and 2011, while others owe for 2009 and even the year before. Your continued support is very important to us. Without your support, it becomes difficult to protect the privilege to surf fish, open up new access to surf anglers and to continue our conservation efforts.

We represent your best interests for access on both the State and County levels. Our fishing privileges are in danger all the time and we fight for them every day. We need your support! If you drive on the beach, you should be a L.I.B.B.A. member. Be a part of the solution not part of the problem.

Also, we have been updating LIBBA’s membership records over the past two years and there are still people who need to update their information. People who do not have complete records are the people that have not received a newsletter or letter in the past. I have worked hard trying to complete this work but now it is your turn to help me. Please contact me if you have not received anything from LIBBA as we need to fix this problem. If you have moved or even changed a phone number, anything that pertains to your information that has been given to us in the past please contact me through the website or call me. We need to correct the problem; we want to let our members what is going on. You can even go on the web site and copy the renewal form and send it to me, or just even call me to verify you information. Everything you give me is confidential.

2010 FISHING CONTEST HIGHLIGHTS

Well, we might call this the year of the big blues. Or where did the stripers go? 2010 was another good year for LIBBA’s Ken Karwick Fishing Contest, and the Montauk and South Shore Derbies.

Entries were received for 12 striped bass, of which only 2 were over 20 lbs. The fact that they were both over 40 is quite impressive. In 2008 and in 2009 there were 6 striped bass entered over 20 lbs.

In the blue fish division 18 fish were entered. An impressive run of big blues in October gave people a chance to grapple with some quality fish. Six of the entered fish were 14 lbs or greater, compared with one in 2009. It was fun hooking into some of those brutes.

Unfortunately no weakfish were entered this year. We all hope that this fishery will get a chance to recover, and we will again be able to enjoy catching this beautiful fish.

The winners of each contest division will receive some great prizes at LIBBA’s annual meeting on March 6. Please make every effort to attend. AND, don’t forget to enter your fish in the 2011 contest. Next year you could be the one getting a great prize!

REMEMBER TO ENTER YOUR FISH IN OUR CONTESTS!

All LIBBA members who are fishing in the NY State Montauk Classic and south Shore Classic are reminded that they are eligible to also enter their fish in the LIBBA Derbies. You can also enter any fish in the Ken Karwick Contest which runs throughout the season. This is a great chance to win some nice LIBBA prizes. Rules & weigh slips can be found on-line at http://libba.com/images/LIBBA_WEIGH_SLIP10.pdf.
