All anglers
who enter fish that do not place in the contest will be entered into a special
drawing. One anglers name will be drawn
for a contest prize.
LARGEST RELEASED STRIPED BASS
Special
recognition award will be given to the angler who enters the largest released
striped bass.

SURF FISHING CONTEST
The Annual contest begins April 1st,
of each year and ends December 15th, Official LIBBA Contest Weigh
slips MUST be postmarked to the LIBBA Fishing Contest Chair by December 31st.
1. To enter
a fish you MUST be a current dues paid LIBBA member.
2. Entries
in the Junior division shall be from a child, or dependent, of a current dues paid
LIBBA member as follows;
a. Youth - who is age 16 or 17 at the time of
catching the fish,
b. Children’s – who is age 15 or under at the
time of catching the fish.
3. The
person who witnesses your entry MUST be a current LIBBA member, or a
tackle shop employee.
4. All entries must be on a LIBBA
WEIGHT SLIP and filled out completely. Your name and LIBBA # and the name and
LIBBA # of the person witnessing the fish must be clearly legible. A tackle
shop weigh-in or a NY Surf Fishing Contest participants club certified scale
must be used. On tackle shop weigh-ins, your weight slip must be stamped or
signed by the proprietor.
5. To encourage catch and release,
released fish may be entered. Remember the weigh-in must be witnessed by
another LIBBA member.
6. A fish entered must be ½ pound or
heavier to replace an existing prize contender. An entry not greater than
½ pound heavier shall be deemed a tie.
7. In the event of a tie, the entry
submitted first will be designated the higher place finish.
8. This is a SURF FISHING CONTEST No
boat, bridge, or body trolling caught fish allowed. You MUST cast
(unless you are physically incapable), fight and land the fish
yourself while standing on good old terra-firma (yes, rocks are OK).
9. There will be 1st,
2nd and 3rd place prizes in the Men's, Women's and Junior
Divisions for striped bass, bluefish and
weakfish.
10. Minimum weights are
as follows;
a.
Weakfish 5 lbs.
b. Bluefish 5 lbs.
c. Striped bass 15 lbs. or 36

d. To encourage Children’s division
entries, a 28” striped bass minimum will be
accepted. (CHILDREN’S DIVISION ONLY)
11. Special Awards
a. Exceptional Fish – Special recognition will be given
for entered fish with weights as follows;

Striped
bass over 50 pounds

ii.
Bluefish
over 20 pounds

iii.
Weakfish
over 15 pounds
- b. Largest Released Striped Bass – Special recognition award
- c. “Hidden Weight” – All anglers who enter fish that do not place in the

12. All fish entered into the
LIBBA Montauk Derby and South Shore Derby will automatically be entered into
the Ken Karwick Memorial Surf Fishing contest.
13. The LIBBA Fishing Contest
Chairman reserves the right to be solely responsible for judging.
14. In case of disputed entries, the LIBBA Board
of Directors reserves the right to disqualify entries.
15. LIBBA is not responsible for
entries not received or lost in the mail.
16. There will be NO exceptions
to these rules!
Winning anglers will be awarded their
prizes at the LIBBA Annual Meeting.

MONTAUK DERBY &
SOUTH SHORE DERBY
LIBBA HOLDS TWO FISHING DERBIES EACH
YEAR. BE SURE TO MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR THESE EVENTS.
THESE DERBIES COINCIDE WITH
THE MONTAUK CLASSIC AND THE SOUTH SHORE CLASSIC, HOSTED BY NEW YORK STATE PARKS
AND THE FISHERMAN MAGAZINE. PLEASE REMEMBER TO ENTER THESE GREAT
EVENTS.
The LIBBA derbies and the NY state contests are separate events. You
must give your LIBBA weight slip to a LIBBA Weigh Master
LIBBA DERBY RULES
LIBBA Weigh Masters will be present
during the derby, and will be designated by a sign on their vehicle.
Additionally they will be present at the state contest awards ceremony. A
LIBBA Weigh Master sign will be displayed on their vehicle in the parking lot
before, during, and immediately after the awards ceremony.
All weight slips for entering fish
must be turned in to him/her at this time.
1. This is a striped bass and
bluefish contest.
2. To enter a fish, you must be a
current dues paid member.
3. All entries must be on a LIBBA
weigh slip (with time of catch recorded).
4. Fish must be weighed in by a
LIBBA Weigh Master, or the state contest’s official weigh station.
5. Weights officially recorded
for the state contest may be used for LIBBA weight slips upon presentation of
legitimate confirmation of the weight to the Weigh Master.
6. All weight slips must be turned
in to a LIBBA Weigh Master by ending time of the derby. (The derby ending time
will be the same as the state contest. Weight slips must be turned in by
the awards ceremony ending time.)
7. Minimum weight for bluefish is 5
Lb., striped bass: 36" or 15 pounds.
8. A fish entered must be ½ pound or
heavier to replace an existing prize contender. An entry less than ½
pound heavier shall be deemed a tie.
9. In the event of a tie, the entry
weighed in first will receive the higher place prize.
10. All fish must be hooked and
landed from the beach, jetty, surf, bank or pier within the state contest’s
boundaries.
11. Fish may be gutted at discretion
of the LIBBA Weigh Master.
12. The LIBBA Fishing Contest
Chairman reserves the right to be solely responsible for judging. In case of
disputed entries, the LIBBA Board of Directors reserves the right to disqualify
entries.
