P.O. Box 816
Babylon, N. Y. 11702
Please accept this gift to the Charles & Marie Hollins Memorial Scholarship Fund in loving
memory of Donald Kyle Boyd. Dad loved surfcasting for the beauty of the beaches, the
company of great friends and family, and the challenge, hope, and thrill of landing a big striper.
He treasured his trips back to Long Island, and spoke often of the important work done by
LIBBA to protect the environment, keep the beaches open, and promote the sport of surfcasting.
Thank you for all of the great times my Dad had fishing Long Island, and for protecting the
beaches for generations to come.
Sincerely
Steven Kyle Boyde

Dear Steven & Kimberly Boyd,

The Board of Directors and the Membership of LIBBA wish to acknowledge that it received 500.00 dollars in contributions to LIBBA’s Charles & Marie Hollins’ Memorial Scholarship Fund in Memory of Donald Kyle Boyd . This contribution will be utilized to support LIBBA’s annual award to a Long Island college student who is in a course of marine biology study. This award is made at the annual membership meeting in March, with the next annual meeting in 2012. This is one of the many ways that LIBBA supports protecting Long Island’s Beaches through marine conservation and education.  Your generosity and support of LIBBA is much appreciated the many surfcasters and other beach users on whose behalf LIBBA represents their access and conservation interests. LIBBA could not continue to do this important function without supporters like you. On behalf of our Executive Board, the Directors, and the entire LIBBA membership, please accept our heartfelt thanks for supporting LIBBA and the scholarship program.

                                                            Sincerely,

Lawrence R. Carlucci,   #1258 LIBBA Treasurer

Donald Kyle Boyd, 58

LACONIA - Donald Kyle Boyd, 58, of Parade Road in Laconia, passed away peacefully on the
morning of Sunday, May 22nd surrounded by the love and support of his family. Don was an
incredibly loving, giving, and devoted husband, father, uncle, godfather, friend and co-worker who
fought cancer with enormous grace and courage.
Don was born June 30th 1952 in Jamaica, NY, the fourth of five children to Lillian and John Boyd. He
spent much time on the neighborhood playgrounds and on the beaches of Long Island before
graduating Freeport High School in 1971.
Don met Merriann, the love of his life, in the summer of 1978 up on Torsey Pond near Readfield, ME.
The lakefront camp at which they met had been in Merriann's family for generations, and remains a
cherished place to be enjoyed for generations to come. Don and Merriann were married in 1980, and
moved to Laconia with hopes of building a family and home together in the beautiful Lakes Region.
The Boyd residence on Parade Road slowly grew from a small ranch into the dream home they had
sketched out together so many years earlier.
Don and Merriann are the proud parents of Christopher (now married to Beth and living in Los
Angeles, CA), Steven (now engaged to Kimberly and living in Boston, MA), and Kelliann (now married
to Benjamin and living in West Roxbury, MA). He was the perfect Dad, providing his family with
tremendous love and support, teaching them by example the value of hard work and friendship, and
ensuring that his children always had everything that they needed to find love, success, and
happiness.
Over the past 27 years, Don built a successful and rewarding career as Division Sales Manager at
Northeast Delta Dental in Concord, NH, where he was a beloved co-worker, colleague, and friend.
Don enjoyed many hobbies and traveling with his family. He loved surfcasting for striped bass on
Long Island and Martha's Vineyard, boating on Lakes Winnipesaukee and Winnisquam, snowmobiling
on the local trails and up north, enjoying the sun and a hard day's work at his summer camp in Maine,
and working on his house and gardens on Parade Road.
Don will be forever remembered by his wife and children, his brothers (John, Arthur, and the late
Kenneth), his sister (Ann), and by his many nieces and nephews.
He Lived Well, Laughed Often, and Loved Much.

2010 LIBBA Scholarship Recipient Message

Dear my fellow LIBBA members,

Once again, I want to take the time to show how appreciative I am of receiving the LIBBA scholarship this year. I am currently a senior in the Marine Biology Major at the University of Rhode Island. I have been interested in pursuing a career in the Maine Biology field since fifth grade. I have always had a strong bond with the ocean. This is the third year I have received the LIBBA scholarship, and am very appreciative of receiving this gift.

This scholarship will help me this year try to pay for my trip for a dolphin studies program in Honduras. The professor I want to work with in graduate school is leading this field studies class. I will be monitoring the cognition and communication of captive dolphins. This class will also count as college credit towards my graduate degree.

Being involved with the LIBBA community makes me appreciate everything around me. Everyone involved in this association plays a major role not only to protect long island beaches, but to give to hard working undergraduates trying to accomplish a degree in the Marine Sciences.

This year I studied abroad for the fall semester in Bermuda. I had my own research on the biofuel of algae and got my scientific diver certification. I continue to be involved in the scuba club, being the vice president. This semester I will be moving on to receive my Dive Master Scuba certification so that I can instruct scuba lessons in the future. I am still continuing my job at the Environmental Protection Agency, working for the Health and Safety department, making sure chemicals are disposed of properly and all health laws are being obeyed in the workplace.

Once again I want to thank everyone for providing me with the generous gift that will help me succeed in my college career. It is very much appreciated. I look forward to seeing everyone soon at upcoming events.

Sincerely,

Allison Seifter
